Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens - better than the general public by the name of Queen Latifah is an American performer, actress and acrobat. In film, music and television, Queen Latifah is the recipient of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award, six more Grammy nods and has been nominated for her Emmy Award. Queen Latifah grew up in Newark, New Jersey. The daughter is Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Their divorce occurred in the year Latifah was ten. Latifah attended a Catholic school, and she was educated in Newark New Jersey. She went to in the Baptist church. The stage name Latifah is a reference to delicate and gentle in Arabic was bestowed to her her aunt when she was eight. Latifah was always tall, standing 5'10" She was a center forward on her high school basketball team. As part of a school production she performed the song Home from The Wiz. Latifah started beatboxing for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah is one of the first members of Flavor Unit, which was in the beginning a group made up of DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King recorded an audition for the hip-hop Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. The recording was handed over to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was a member of Latifah at the time, was impressed by her song. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
